Premarital sex and cohabitation outside of marriage are acceptable in our culture but the church has never had any issue with declaring these things sinful and dealing with them appropriately. I don't understand why this issue is treated differently.

Great words and thoughts Pastor Nelson!

After spending time over this last weekend, Good Friday and Easter, I had gotten the chance to spend some time with a few folks in First Evangelical Free Church that seem to be forgotten. They are older than most everyone else, even though most of them have been members for decades; one gentleman I met was a member since 1968. And it was difficult since they had so much to say. I had gotten to only spend a few minutes with a few of them and they taught me more than most conversations.

This is why I am excited about a project at school where I get the chance to do a bible study lesson on Titus 2. And considering we got to select our age group, we are pleased to do one for the older folks; the sages of the faith. Titus 2 is great to talk about mentorship and wisdom being passed down and we are greatly looking forward to the oppurtunity.

Again, thank you for the wisdom. Blessings upon your day!

This is very good Jerry! I have many thoughts, but I'll just share the first things that come to mind.

I believe just a cursory study of God’s Word confirms what you are discussing here.
The breadth and depth of biblical teaching, from beginning to end, endorses elder-based leadership, counsel and decision making among God’s people.

If the principals of church leadership found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 are still to be considered relevant, then it seems contrary for the Body to be primarily “Youth Driven”.

In Romans 12 we are warned not to “conform any longer to the patterns of this world”, but it appears in many ways these words have gone unheeded within the church. The whims and fads of youth and culture have largely taken precedence over the ageless authority of Scripture, which sanctions and validates mature, tested and elder-driven godly leadership.

Thanks for this article Jerry. I believe it is timely, that it is presented in truth and love, and most of all that it pleases the Lord.
